About Werkvolk

What Werkvolk is, who it is for and where we are active.

For everyone
What exactly is Werkvolk?

Werkvolk is a matching platform with two sides. Skilled workers use a free app: you fill in your profile with your experience, your requirements and a short personality test, and you only see vacancies that fit. Employers use a portal to manage vacancies, matches and conversations. If a skilled worker shows interest in your vacancy and you show interest back, you have a match and you chat directly. No CV, no cover letter, no middleman.

Who is Werkvolk for?

For skilled workers and operational profiles on one side, and the employers looking for them on the other. Think welders, forklift operators, warehouse staff, technicians, cooks, receptionists and administrative profiles. On the employer side, small family businesses and organisations with several sites both use the platform.

Is Werkvolk a temp agency or a recruitment agency?

No. Werkvolk is neither. Every vacancy on the platform is a direct contract with the employer itself, part time or full time. There is no consultant standing between you, and no commission is charged per placement.

Which region is Werkvolk active in?

Werkvolk is live across the whole of Limburg today. That focus is deliberate: as an employer you get candidates from your own region instead of a thin spread across the country, and as a skilled worker you work close to home. We are expanding into the rest of Belgium step by step. If you live in a province where we are not live yet, you can already download the app and set a job alert.

The Werkvolk app

Downloading, building your profile, swiping, matching and chatting.

For skilled workers
Where do I download the Werkvolk app?

On the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android. The app is free, including the download itself. You will find the direct links on the download page of this website.

Is the app really completely free?

Yes. The app is and stays free for jobseekers. There is no subscription, no premium tier and no commission on your pay when you start a job through Werkvolk. Employers pay for their vacancies, you never pay anything.

How do I create a profile?

In about five minutes. You say which roles you are looking for, what experience and certificates you have, where you live and how far you are willing to travel, and what you expect in terms of pay, hours and shifts. Then you take a short personality test. From that moment on you start seeing vacancies that fit.

Do I need to upload a CV or a cover letter?

No. Werkvolk works without a CV and without a cover letter. Your profile is your application. You fill in your experience and your requirements once and use that for every vacancy you show interest in.

How the matching works

What we match on, what the match score means and why travel time counts.

For everyone
How does Werkvolk matching work?

A vacancy holds the must-haves, the pay range, the shifts and the location. A profile holds the experience, the certificates, the requirements, the home location and a personality profile. The matching puts those two side by side and works out how well they fit. Skilled workers only see vacancies that match well enough, employers get a ranked list with the reasoning behind every candidate.

What exactly does Werkvolk match on?

Five things: the must-have requirements of the vacancy, the skills and work experience of the candidate, the travel time between home and workplace, the personality of the candidate and the culture of the team you are hiring for. All five count, and you can see how each part scores on every match.

What does the match score mean?

The match score sums up how well a profile and a vacancy line up across those five dimensions. It is a sorting aid, not a verdict on a person. That is why you can always open it up: you see which must-haves are met, which experience counts, how long the trip is and how the personality relates to the team. No black box.

Why does travel time count, and not just distance?

Twenty kilometres down the motorway is not the same as twenty kilometres by bus at five in the morning. Werkvolk calculates the real travel time for the shift you are hiring for, and shows it per mode of transport: by car, by public transport, by bike and on foot. For shift work on a hard to reach site that is often the difference between someone who stays and someone who drops out after a month.

Direct contracts, no temp work

Why Werkvolk works with direct contracts instead of temp agency contracts.

For skilled workers
Does Werkvolk work with temp agency contracts?

No. Werkvolk is not a temp agency. Every vacancy in the app is a direct contract with the employer, part time or full time.

What is the difference between temp work and working directly?

With temp work you go through an agency that acts as the middleman: you are employed by that agency and hired out to a client company. With a direct contract through Werkvolk you sign with the employer itself. Your pay, your seniority and your contract sit there, not with a third party.

What are the advantages of a direct contract?

You have a direct relationship with your employer from day one, clarity about your contract and your terms, and no margin going to a middleman. In practice, direct employment also brings more stability, faster build-up of seniority and more room to grow.

Who is my employer if I start through Werkvolk?

The company where you go to work. Werkvolk brings you together and then steps out of the picture: we are never your employer, we do not pay your wages and we are not on your contract.

Pay and benefits

What you earn, what is visible up front and which benefits come with it.

For skilled workers
Do I see the pay up front in the app?

Yes, always. Every vacancy on Werkvolk shows the pay before you show interest, including how it is paid, per hour or per month, and the hours or shifts that go with it. So you know what you will earn without having to ask in a first interview.

Why is the pay always shown on the vacancy?

Because its absence was the first thing skilled workers complained about when we did our research. A vacancy without pay costs everyone time: you drive to an interview for an amount that does not add up, and the employer talks to people who were never going to sign. That is why it is not optional here, it is a condition for publishing.

What is a pay range and why is a range shown?

A pay range is the band within which the employer wants to pay, for example 16 to 19 euro an hour. Where you land inside it depends on your experience, your certificates and sometimes on the shift you work. The top figure is not bait: it is what the employer actually pays someone who brings everything to the table.

What is the difference between gross and net pay?

Gross pay is your pay before tax and social security contributions. Net pay is what actually reaches your account. Vacancies usually show the gross amount, because the net depends on your personal situation: your household, your seniority and any benefits.

Certificates and training

Which certificates are asked for and where you can train for them.

For skilled workers
Do I need a diploma to apply?

Not always. Some jobs suit starters with no experience or diploma, others ask for a specific certificate. You state which certificates and experience you have in your profile, and you only see vacancies you qualify for. That way you do not waste time on jobs you would never get through.

Which certificates are asked for most often?

It depends heavily on the sector. In logistics a forklift or reach truck certificate is common. In construction and industry you see a lot of VCA, and BA4 or BA5 for work on electrical installations. Welders need a welding qualification per process, and transport asks for a category C or CE licence with code 95. The requirements are always stated on the vacancy itself.

Will I be rejected if I am missing one certificate?

If the employer set that certificate as a must-have, you will not see the vacancy. That is not a judgement on you, it is a legal or safety requirement for that workplace. Often it is a certificate you can get in a few days, and that opens up a whole run of vacancies.

Can I take a course to get a certificate?

Yes. In Flanders you can train through the VDAB and through Syntra for common certificates such as a forklift licence, VCA or a welding course. Many of those courses are short and often free for jobseekers. Some employers also pay for a new employee's training themselves.

Questions by occupation

Frequently asked questions about specific occupations, straight from our job categories.

For skilled workers
What is the difference between a Welder and a Pipe welder?

A welder is the broad trade covering plates, structures and pipes with different welding processes, while a pipe welder specialises in welding pipe joints, often for high pressure or industrial pipework. A pipe welder is in effect a welder who focuses on pipes.

Which diplomas or certificates do you need as a forklift operator?

The key requirement is a valid forklift certificate proving you can operate the truck safely. Many sites also expect a VCA safety certificate before you start. Beyond that, employers value accuracy, a safe attitude and correct data recording.

In which sectors do you work as an administrative assistant?

You work in business and organisational support, usually in the secretariat or as support staff. Because administration and management are needed everywhere, you find these jobs in companies of every size and in almost every sector, from small local firms to large organisations.

What is the difference between a Cook and a Head chef manager?

A head chef manager combines cooking with the business side of the kitchen, such as budgets, staff and purchasing policy. As a cook you focus first of all on menus, preparation and the quality of the dishes. In smaller establishments the two roles often merge into one job.

The employer portal

What you manage in the portal and how it fits alongside your existing process.

For employers
What is the Werkvolk portal?

The portal is the employer side of the platform. You manage your vacancies, your matches, your conversations with candidates, your culture profiles and your insights, all in one place. You do not need any software: you log in through your browser, including on your phone or tablet.

How do I get started as an employer?

You create an account yourself and put your first vacancy online, usually in under half an hour. There is no onboarding with an external agency and no waiting weeks. Your first hire is currently free, so you can try the platform out fully before you pay anything.

How many recruiters can I add?

Unlimited, and with no per-user cost. Your whole hiring team can be on the platform, from HR manager to hiring manager and team leader. Several recruiters can even sit in the same conversation with a candidate, so nobody loses the thread through illness or holidays.

Can I manage several sites or brands?

Yes. With multi-company management you add sub-companies or sites, each with their own branding, their own vacancies and their own culture profile. You switch between companies with the company switcher and keep the overview central. Useful as soon as you hire in more than one location.

Posting vacancies and reach

How you put a vacancy online and everywhere it ends up.

For employers
How do I post a vacancy?

Straight in the portal, in minutes rather than days. You fill in the role, the terms, the shifts and the location requirements, add your company video and photos and link your company culture to the vacancy. You set up to five must-haves, and your vacancy is live.

Where does my vacancy appear?

You post once and your vacancy goes to seven channels at the same time: to matching skilled workers in the Werkvolk app, automatically on the VDAB website, on its own vacancy page on werkvolkjobs.com, in the vacancy results of Google Jobs, as a shareable link for WhatsApp and social media, through our advertising traffic that brings skilled workers to the platform, and through our partnerships with technical schools and training centres.

Does my vacancy really appear on the VDAB website automatically?

Yes. Werkvolk is an official partner of the VDAB and your vacancy is published on the VDAB website automatically. You do not need to enter it there separately and you do not need to keep anything in sync: you manage everything in the Werkvolk portal.

Does my vacancy end up in Google Jobs?

Yes. Every vacancy gets its own web page with JobPosting structured data, which is exactly what Google needs to show it in the vacancy results. That happens automatically, without you setting anything up.

Culture fit and personality

How we measure company culture and link it to a candidate profile.

For employers
What is culture fit matching at Werkvolk?

You measure your organisational culture with a scientifically grounded test, per team or per department. Every candidate takes a short personality test. The matching puts both side by side and shows how someone relates to the team you are hiring for. So you decide on data instead of on gut feeling after a single interview.

What is CVF or OCAI?

The Competing Values Framework, measured with the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument, is one of the most used and most researched models for organisational culture. It describes culture across four dimensions: collaborate, create, compete and control. Almost every organisation has some of all four, and it is the balance between them that makes your culture recognisable.

How do I measure my company culture?

You invite your employees to take the culture test. They fill it in individually, and you get a profile at organisation level and per team or department. You can repeat the measurement later and follow the evolution, for example after a reorganisation or an acquisition.

What does the culture test cost?

Nothing extra. The culture measurement and the personality matching are included in your vacancy price. External assessments typically charge tens of euros per candidate, and that is exactly what we make unnecessary here.

Pricing and billing

What a vacancy costs, how billing runs and what is included.

For employers
What does a vacancy cost on Werkvolk?

Your first hire is currently completely free, however many vacancies you post in that period. After that you pay 149 euro per 4 weeks per vacancy you keep online, with a minimum of 12 weeks per activated vacancy. From then on every vacancy can be cancelled every 4 weeks.

Is the first hire really free?

Yes, and it is a temporary offer, not a permanent part of our pricing. You post vacancies, receive matches and chat with candidates without paying. Billing only starts from your first hire, and only for the vacancies you keep online after that. So you see the result first and pay once it has worked.

Do I pay a placement fee or commission per hire?

No. Zero euro, even if you hire several people from the same vacancy. That is the biggest difference with a temp agency or recruitment agency, where you quickly pay 17 to 25% on top of the gross salary or thousands of euros per placement.

Why a minimum of 12 weeks per vacancy?

Because reach needs time to build. Your vacancy has to flow through to the app, the VDAB website, your own vacancy page, Google Jobs and our advertising, and those channels do not all deliver in week one. Twelve weeks is three billing periods of 4 weeks. If it does not work out in that time, we highlight your vacancy for free.

VDAB and partnerships

What the official VDAB partnership means, and who else we work with.

For everyone
Is Werkvolk an official partner of the VDAB?

Yes. Werkvolk is an official partner of the VDAB, the Flemish public employment and vocational training service. That recognition confirms that you are working with a reliable platform to find skilled workers.

What is the VDAB?

The VDAB is the public employment service of Flanders. It helps jobseekers into work, organises vocational training and supports employers in finding staff. For most Flemish jobseekers, the VDAB is the official point of contact.

What does the partnership mean for employers?

Two things. First, reach: your vacancy appears automatically on the VDAB website without you having to enter it there separately. Second, reassurance: you are working with a platform recognised by the public employment service of Flanders.

What does the partnership mean for jobseekers?

That the vacancies you see in the app come from real employers who also recruit through the official channels. Werkvolk contributes to a stronger Flemish labour market instead of building a closed island next to it.

Privacy, data and security

Who sees your data, where it lives and how you remove it.

For everyone
What does Werkvolk do with my data?

We use it to match you with vacancies or with candidates, and for nothing else. Werkvolk is 100% GDPR compliant, all data is stored encrypted and we never sell your data to third parties. There is also no reselling of profiles to temp agencies or job boards.

Where is my data stored?

Entirely within the European Union. We do not use American hosting providers. That is a deliberate choice: it means your data falls under European rules and stays that way.

Who sees my profile as a skilled worker?

An employer only sees your profile after you have shown interest in their vacancy yourself. There is no searchable CV database for companies to browse. You take the first step, and without it nobody sees your profile.

Can my current employer see that I am looking?

Not unless you show interest in a vacancy from that company. Your profile is not public and is not searchable. If you want to be certain, simply swipe away vacancies from your own employer.
