Frequently asked questions
9 questions in this topic
Do I see the pay up front in the app?
Yes, always. Every vacancy on Werkvolk shows the pay before you show interest, including how it is paid, per hour or per month, and the hours or shifts that go with it. So you know what you will earn without having to ask in a first interview.
Why is the pay always shown on the vacancy?
Because its absence was the first thing skilled workers complained about when we did our research. A vacancy without pay costs everyone time: you drive to an interview for an amount that does not add up, and the employer talks to people who were never going to sign. That is why it is not optional here, it is a condition for publishing.
What is a pay range and why is a range shown?
A pay range is the band within which the employer wants to pay, for example 16 to 19 euro an hour. Where you land inside it depends on your experience, your certificates and sometimes on the shift you work. The top figure is not bait: it is what the employer actually pays someone who brings everything to the table.
What is the difference between gross and net pay?
Gross pay is your pay before tax and social security contributions. Net pay is what actually reaches your account. Vacancies usually show the gross amount, because the net depends on your personal situation: your household, your seniority and any benefits.
Do I get extra benefits such as meal vouchers?
That varies per employer and per vacancy. Meal vouchers, eco vouchers, hospitalisation insurance, group insurance or a bike allowance are all common. What is included is stated on the vacancy itself, so you can compare two jobs fairly.
How is shift work or night work paid?
Shift, evening and night work is usually paid with a premium on top of the base rate. How much depends on the employer and on the joint committee for the sector. You will find the shifts and the matching premium on the vacancy.
Is my commute reimbursed?
Often it is, but it depends on the sector and the employer: a mileage allowance, a bike allowance or a contribution towards your public transport pass. Because the app shows your travel time per mode of transport, you can work out up front what a job actually costs you in travel.
Can I negotiate my pay?
Yes. The vacancy shows what the employer wants to pay, but a conversation is still a conversation. Because you chat directly, you can put your experience and your certificates on the table yourself instead of having a middleman do it for you.
Where can I see what a particular job typically pays?
Our salary pages per occupation give guide figures for roles such as welder, forklift operator or warehouse worker, along with the factors that make the difference. That is an indication based on the market. What a specific employer pays is always stated on their own vacancy.
