Do I need a diploma to apply?
Not always. Some jobs suit starters with no experience or diploma, others ask for a specific certificate. You state which certificates and experience you have in your profile, and you only see vacancies you qualify for. That way you do not waste time on jobs you would never get through.
Which certificates are asked for most often?
It depends heavily on the sector. In logistics a forklift or reach truck certificate is common. In construction and industry you see a lot of VCA, and BA4 or BA5 for work on electrical installations. Welders need a welding qualification per process, and transport asks for a category C or CE licence with code 95. The requirements are always stated on the vacancy itself.
Will I be rejected if I am missing one certificate?
If the employer set that certificate as a must-have, you will not see the vacancy. That is not a judgement on you, it is a legal or safety requirement for that workplace. Often it is a certificate you can get in a few days, and that opens up a whole run of vacancies.
Can I take a course to get a certificate?
Yes. In Flanders you can train through the VDAB and through Syntra for common certificates such as a forklift licence, VCA or a welding course. Many of those courses are short and often free for jobseekers. Some employers also pay for a new employee's training themselves.
Does Werkvolk work with schools and training centres?
Yes. Werkvolk has partnership agreements with technical schools, where we run sessions ourselves, and with training centres. Skilled workers who have just finished a course flow straight through to the platform, and employers see that back in their candidate supply.
How do I add my certificates to my profile?
In your profile in the app you tick which certificates you hold and how long they are valid. You do not need to upload documents to match. The employer can ask about them during the conversation, and you simply show them when you visit.
My VCA or forklift certificate has expired. What now?
Update your profile, because an expired certificate does not count towards must-haves. Most certificates are renewed with a short refresher or a re-test. In the meantime, do put your other experience in your profile: plenty of vacancies do not have that certificate as a must-have.
Are there jobs for people without work experience?
Yes. Many employers on Werkvolk are open to starters and train new people on the job. Warehouse work, production and cleaning are common ways in. Be honest about how much experience you have in your profile: you will then see jobs that genuinely fit.
